Dear colleagues and friends!
We would like to welcome you most warmly to the 47th GNPI under the motto "Viennese Melange", "Female Neonatology" as well as "Working at the Border".
Not only will you be greeted by a female president and secretary at this GNPI annual meeting, but we have also taken great care to make the entire programme "gender-appropriate" and, in particular, to allow recognised female experts and internationally renowned female colleagues to speak.
In order to ensure a realistic implementation of our congress despite the far-reaching travel restrictions due to the Corona pandemic, we are preparing the GNPI 2021 as a digital congress.
You can expect innovative session and workshop formats, from virtual live discussions and participant chats to virtual workshops and seminars including virtual reality workshops. The focus of the scientific programme ranges from innovations in patient safety and simulation, optimal management of extremely immature preterm infants, innovations in stem cell therapy and microbiome research to point of care ultrasound in the ICU as well as "lessons learned" from the COVID-19 pandemic for the work on our wards.
In the field of paediatric intensive care, we will focus on extracorporeal procedures as well as innovative aspects of working at the frontier in paediatric cardiology and cardiosurgery intensive care. The nursing programme will highlight on the one hand the impact of generalist nursing training as well as migration and demographic change on the work in our intensive care units, but also challenges and solution strategies for the transition of complex patients as well as palliative care before, during and after birth.
We are particularly happy about the close cooperation with the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) in the preparation of the programme. Silke Mader has put together a comprehensive EFCNI programme that will accompany us over all three congress days as a virtual parallel strand together with the care programme.
Even though we will not be able to welcome you this year, as planned, in the beautiful Garden Palace Liechtenstein and in the large ballroom of the Imperial Hofburg, we have come up with something special to transport at least a little Viennese flair - from a small Sacher cake in the congress bag to a virtual cultural evening programme - let us surprise you!
With this in mind, we would like to welcome you to the virtual GNPI world!
Angelika Berger, Congress President
Katrin Klebermaß-Schrehof, Congress Secretary
